Adlink today announced availability of the industry’s first Extreme Rugged system based on the Intel Core2 Duo processor. The Adlink RuffSystem 840 integrates a dual-core processor, RAM, graphics, networking, and PCI Express expansion in an Extreme Rugged enclosure that operates from -40 to +75 degrees Celsius. Designed from the start for extreme rugged environments, RuffSystem 840 provides the lowest Total-Cost-of-Ownership (TCO) while improving time-to-market by integrating rugged designed boards and validating the complete system, saving customer efforts and resources in trial and error integration and validation. The highly-integrated RuffSystem 840 plus packs a broad range of I/O, including two gigabit Ethernet ports, four USB 2.0 channels, VGA, stereo audio, 4 serial ports (2 supporting RS232/422/485), parallel port, and one SATA II interface. The system plus provides flexible expansion via CompactFlash socket, Mini PCI Express Card and Mini PCI slot.

The Adlink RuffSystem 840 supports a full range of popular embedded and desktop operating systems, including Ubuntu 8.04 LTS and Windows XP Professional. The Adlink RuffSystem 840 is designed for ruggedness and reliability in mission critical computer applications such as military, transportation monitoring and control systems, aviation, and other harsh environments.
