iRex next-generation eBook reader

iRex has shared an image of its next-gen wireless touch eReader with the outside world. The new device should be out in date for the holiday season, but note that that image is just a concept – the final product may be a little different. The good news is that the tactile screen should be 8.1″ big. A stylus has been mentioned, but it will hopefully be finger-friendly too. Finally, there’s 3G support from an unknown carrier. That sounds all good, but anxiously wait to learn about the online store and the book selection.

As a consumer, I think that eBooks really need to settle around one format, that would be “mp3″ of eBooks. The other thing that’s needed for mass adoption is color. Books are nice, but magazines and journals are probably even more suitable for eReaders.
